John/William Vaughan

"William Vaughn in Rev. War records on Heritage Quest. John Vaughn was listed with the same spelling and they were the only two in Maryland....wondering is they were brothers.

There is a way to get to the pdf of the land documents on the Whilbr site. Take his lot # and divide by 10 to get to the page...and you'll see the handwritten document of John Vaughan's land grant. There are two notes on the document; one note says, S.W.E. Augustus Konig or Honig 17 Dec 1852. ...S.W. E. John Barnes (John could be Dolen, or Jolen) Sept 22, 1874. its maybe hard reading, but John died 14 July 1842, so if his land was sold then it would have been one of his son's?. It looks as though John was living in Maryland at the time he enlisted in the Continental Army.

I would love to get to other documents that may gives us more info on his possible Irish ancestry." Anonymous

"1767 immigration to America is interesting ... John's land was east of Herrington Manor and west of Swanton, both in Maryland. His land grant almost was in what is now West Virginia. If he lived there and/or if he sold the land, this could be some information that might help us fill in some gaps in his life. ...The Ireland connection really needs to be explored. Many have said the Vaughans were Scot-Irish" Anonymous

Copy the war pension record of a William Vaughn from Maryland, he may be our John's brother. However, this William was md. to a Hannah, so not your William, but could still be related to our John Vaughn. They were the only two MD soldiers with this spelling. ...Question if our line's, John was indeed born in Ireland from the marriage.

Updated annually, this database is an index to passengers who arrived in United States and Canadian ports from the 1500s through the 1900s. It contains listings of approximately 4,712,000 individuals and references thousands of different records compiled from everything from original passenger lists to personal diaries. For each individual listed, you may find the following information: name, age, year and place of arrival, and the source of the record.

There is also a 1767 John Vaughan arrival to "America" that we may need to research.

Anonymous e-mails: Parts of these messages are referring to the Vaughan line.... and I do have friend s who sends me genealogy in a e-mail form...that refer to my line as well as others in this time and thought it would be of interest to us all. If they are of interest I rewrite them and print them here. (...since this was a formed mail (published mail-source) to all members which includes myself. I do take parts out that are private in nature and any living names and t;y to take out personal opinions...If you send me this type of source please do the same.
